I cannot think of a basket that is more Maine than the Aroostook Potato Basket.
The Micmac Indians first made this style potato basket, which is specific to Aroostook County, Maine. Before mechanical harvesters were used potatoes were picked off rows by hand and dumped into barrels. These potatoes were first placed into this basket before filling the barrels. I love both the form and look of the Aroostook Potato Basket and have used it as a basis for many of my Maine themed baskets.
My updated and adorned Aroostook-based baskets offer many uses. From holding magazines to handcrafts it can be used decoratively or taken to the garden or market to serve a utilitarian purpose. These baskets also make wonderful gifts alone or presented filled with goodies.
Like all handcrafted items there are rarely two exactly alike making each one uniquely individual. Even after hundreds of baskets I still find each one a joy to craft and hope you will receive years of pleasure from them.
