Wheat Weaving....an art form with origins almost as old as wheat itself....embodies the grain-related beliefs, rituals, and customs of many centuries and cultures.
Wheat has always been important as a food source, but more significantly as a symbol for thousands upon thousands of years of people's highest hopes and deepest fears.
Before baskets my weaving career began with wheat and I am now reintroducing it for sale on my website. Wheat weavings look lovely displayed on a wall or hanging in a window.
Thought to be Welsh in origin the Sweetheart was given to ensure good fortune in all matters of love. Handwoven from the finest quality of North Dakota blackbearded wheat the Sweetheart
would make a wonderful gift by itself or paired with a box of chocolates. How about Hershey's Hugs....now that would make a wonderful pairing!
The Sweetheart measures approximately 9"X12"
This design is orginally from Devonshire, England and is a beautiful example of a simple shape rich in elegance and appearance. The Devonshire Heart is sometimes called the "heart of eternity" and it was given to couples as an anniversary gift, usually after the couple had been married for many years. Handwoven with North Dakota blackbearded wheat this design measure apporximately 14"X14"
